    Shine Peninsula (HK, PRC)

Shine is one of Hong Kong’s most renowned high end multi brand fashion stores, known for bringing pioneering foreign brands to Hong Kong clientele.  Shine Peninsula Flagship store is located in Hong Kong most historical hotel & one of the oldest fashion arcade in Hong Kong.  Shine Peninsula is sited in an area that was at one time filled with tailors, seamstresses, haberdasheries.  Award winning architectural firm NCDA has deliberately used this opportunity to bring the technical art of couture clothing construction into the architectural reinterpretation of the new Shine Boutique.

The curvilinear facade frame extends from the exterior to the interior, supporting a pleated black metal mesh that covers the entire interior body, resembling a black laced pleated dress.  Further details are shown in the design of clothing racks with hand stitched leather holder & wheels that resembles leather buttons & golden backdrop for mannequins that resembles bronze cuffs.

The cashier area at the back conceals the fitting rooms by a continuously folded black steel partition that resembles a dressing screen, the natural grain of the blackened metal further echoes the traditional ink wash technique with fabrics.

The design also shows the clear hierarchy of materials application.  All areas where people could touch would be hand stitched with leather (racks, door handle, and ranges in scaled from the front door handle to the full fitting room internal walls), and floor covered with 6lbs carpet.  Entry area and areas below the racks with the most traffic are lined with marble to sustain the wear & tear.

The design of the Shine flagship store in the Peninsula hotel showcases how classic womenswear tailoring could be seamlessly integrated into fashion retail, creating a fascinating yet highly functional contemporary store.
